Botswana 2018

IJSO – The XV International Olympiad of Young Scientists was held this year in Gaborone, Botswana. IJSO – This is one of the most challenging Olympiads in the world, held in 3 natural sciences – physics, chemistry and biology. The Olympiad lasts for 10 days and is held in three rounds. Students compete in test, theoretical and experimental assignments. Team leaders and students are separated. Leaders are involved in selecting and translating the Olympiad assignments, though all participants must be fluent in English.

This year 44 countries participated in the Olympiad, which took place on December 2-11. The Georgian team was fully composed by X grade students of Georgian-American High School. (The age of participants in the Olympiad should not exceed 16 years). The team consisted of:

As in previous years, our team has been successful at the Olympiad. The Georgian national team won a bronze medal.

In Botswana, our team traveled through Doha and Johannesburg. Travel time by Qatar Airlines was 27 hours.

As in previous years, cultural program of the Olympiad was brilliantly organized.

The flora and fauna of the natural reserves of Mokolodi and Jwana made an impression on the participants.

The next Olympiad will be held in Qatar, from which our team has already received the invitation.

The Georgian performance was highly assessed at the closing ceremony.
